Soil Chromatography
Soil Chromatography
Join us for soil chromatography, a workshop that crosses the boundaries between art and science, using photographic chemistries to reveal components held within samples of soil.
We encourage you to bring your own sample of soil to the workshop to diversify your experience. You will need about 2 tablespoons / a handful of soil. If possible, please dry out your soil before bringing it to the workshop. You will grind down these samples to use in the printmaking process. Soil samples are used in combination with silver nitrate, which is used to create a photographic record of the components held within each sample. As the solution spreads across the circular filter paper, organic matter is separated and a natural banding effect is created.
Please bring your own notebook and pen. All other materials provided.
When: Tuesday 24th September, 3-5pm.
Where: SET Kensington, 7-17 Ansdell Street, W8 5BN, London + 1 day at Hornsey Rise Gardens.
Facilities: Large darkroom, large bright teaching room with outside area attached.
